Now that the child has had a chance to see Bookbot and view the books, it is time to read the first book together. Let the child select the book according to their interests.
Explain how Bookbot functions, its special features and the best way to read for Bookbot to work.
Swipe to the first page.
Have your child read the words in the box aloud.
When Bookbot hears you say the correct word it will go blue. If the word is one of the special words you will see a puff of confetti.
If your child is not sure of a word, you can click on it and Bookbot will help you.
Look down the bottom and you will see the page buttons. When your child has read everything on the page correctly, the button will be a round, green, dot. Encourage the child to complete as many full green circles as they can.
Point out the page turn button.
It should be highlighted red to indicate automatic turn is on, so when you get to the end of the page, and all the words are correct, the page will turn for you.
At the end of the page, some words may be presented to be repeated.
Encourage your child to repeat the words after the Bookbot.
The page should then automatically turn.
Once your child has finished the book, Bookbot will then award a sticker.
After a moment Bookbot will load the ‘rate’ screen. Ask the child if they liked that book? They can tell Bookbot how much by picking one of the stars. Encourage the child to rate the book and describe how they have enjoyed the experience.
